What the number means
A Coast FIRE result is the starting balance that reaches a future target if the entered assumptions hold. A possible Coast age is the first monthly crossing of that modeled threshold. Neither result establishes that you can stop saving, retire, afford a particular lifestyle or sustain withdrawals.
What can change the outcome
Actual returns vary. Losses, fees, taxes, changing spending, health expenses, benefits, account access restrictions and retirement length can materially change results. Constant return illustrations do not calculate probabilities and do not model sequence-of-returns risk.
Default inputs are examples. The 7% return, 3% inflation and 4% withdrawal assumptions are editable modeling choices, not forecasts or personal recommendations. References to historical withdrawal research do not guarantee future outcomes.
Use the methodology to reproduce the arithmetic. A qualified professional can assess personal circumstances that this model does not capture. Report an error to support@retiregrowth.com.
